Veneers
Each tooth in your mouth is comprised of a pulp chamber at its center. It is protected by a very hard but porous layer called "dentin." Covering the dentin is the smooth, shiny enamel others see when you smile. However, sometimes that enamel loses its beauty.

Teeth wear down over time. The enamel may be cracked or chipped from trauma. Medications, use of tobacco, or your diet can lead to discoloration. Sometimes there are gaps or overlaps in alignment, or teeth just aren't shaped attractively. Porcelain veneers can be a fast, permanent alternative to orthodontics, and are more conservative than dental crowns.
Dr. Jamil Alkhoury imbues a sense of artistry into every dental procedure, but nowhere is it more evident than in applying veneers. A dental veneer is a very thin shell of strong, lustrous porcelain. It is bonded to the front surface to improve a tooth's appearance. (A veneer also strengthens a tooth with compromised enamel.) One veneer may be applied to a single tooth, or they used on all the teeth that show when you smile, for even coloration and uniform spacing.
Once you and Dr. Alkhoury have determined that veneers are the right solution for your situation, he will “prep” the teeth by removing a very small amount of surface enamel. This allows the veneers to fit snugly and look natural. Impressions of your mouth and precise measurements are taken.
As you are fitted with temporary veneers, the doctor will work closely with you to select restorations that accomplish just the look you want, both in shade and shape. All of this information is sent to a dental laboratory where your permanent veneers are crafted to Dr. Alkhoury's exact specifications. The temporaries give you a chance to try out your new smile, meanwhile.
You return in about two weeks. The temporaries are gently removed and the porcelain veneers cemented into place. After a bit of finish work and polishing, you leave with a lovely, natural-looking smile!
Good home care is important to ensure that your porcelain veneers last many years. The Brentwood Family Dental team will explain the need to brush after meals and floss before bedtime, and will show you the proper technique. Regular professional check-ups are vital to your overall oral health.
