Our practice near Walnut Creek has technology that helps your dentist perform wisdom teeth removal
Within the general dental practice, people are evaluated for various dental situations that they face. At certain times, we may have to address conditions such as the removal of wisdom teeth or the placement of dental implants to replace missing teeth. Dr. Alkhoury, in our practice near
Walnut Creek, believes that the right
technology can lead to better care and outcomes that are more predictable. When you visit your
dentist, peace of mind comes from knowing what to expect, and we do what we can to facilitate this.
Brentwood Family Dental is equipped with advanced technologies to help us diagnose, treat, and plan procedures based on the most accurate information. Standard x-rays are becoming somewhat obsolete in today's advanced dental practice. To provide the highest standard of care, we must have an in-depth understanding of the oral structure. We are able to gain the precise view we need using 3D imaging.
Different from standard x-rays, 3D imaging could be likened to traveling to the inner areas of the mouth and jaw, and seeing the ligaments, muscles, and even the nerves. From the view we are able to accomplish with this technology, we are better able to plan a variety of treatments, including the removal of wisdom teeth.
Wisdom teeth are the final teeth to erupt, often during the teen years or the early twenties. Using 3D imaging with adolescent patients, we are able to determine the location and position of wisdom teeth below the gums, and properly plan removal when necessary. Most people do require the removal of wisdom teeth. Often, there is not adequate space in the arch for these molars to grow in. Leaving wisdom teeth to erupt could lead to misalignment as other teeth are pushed out of the way. This is a mild scenario. Untreated wisdom teeth may also simply stay below the gums, where they continue to develop roots that spread into the jawbone, posing a whole new set of risks.
Dr. Alkhoury closely examines patients for the growth of wisdom teeth so that removal can take place at the appropriate time. With 3D imaging, you can see what we see. In the planning stages of wisdom tooth removal, we will be able to pinpoint the location of nerves, wisdom teeth roots, and other vital structures, leading to successful removal.
