Know what to expect when replacing teeth with implants in Brentwood
The more we have learned about oral anatomy and the needs of the jawbone, the better we have become at replacing missing teeth
. Today, dental implants
are the treatment of choice for many of our Brentwood
area patients, and for good reason. With dental implants, there is no need to modify healthy teeth unnecessarily. Implants provide outstanding stability whether replacing a single tooth or many. Ultimately, dental implant treatment is the only option that leads to a lifetime of functionality. Dr. Alkhoury discusses with his patients what they can expect throughout their entire tooth replacement process.
In a consultation with Dr. Alkhoury, you will discuss your overall needs and expectations for treatment. An examination will help your dentist determine if dental implants are right for you. X-rays and other imaging may be used to assist the evaluation process. If implants are chosen, the appointment for insertion will be scheduled.
Like in other dental procedures, local anesthetic will be administered to numb the treatment area. Dr. Alkhoury creates an opening in the jaw using gentle technique, and inserts the titanium post into the jawbone with precision. Gum tissue is stitched over the implant so that it is undisturbed during the healing process. In the months that follow the insertion of an implant, bone tissue is stimulated to grow around the post. After a few months, the implant post is firmly situated in the bone and an appointment for the placement of a final restoration can be made. Depending on the location of the missing tooth or the quantity of missing teeth, arrangements may be made for temporary restorations for the recovery period.
After the final restoration has been affixed to the implant or implants, there are no limitations on types of foods that may be enjoyed and no special requirements for care. The success of implant treatment is impacted by oral health, just as is the success of natural teeth. With excellent oral hygiene that includes brushing, flossing, and regular dental care, implants can last a lifetime.
