Patients in the area of Brentwood, CA who are interested in enhancement of their smile after tooth loss may want to learn more about the benefits and use of dentures. Dentures are a wonderful option for many patients, and our dentist at Brentwood Family Dental can answer many questions about them, including “How do dentures work?”
What are dentures?
Dr. Jamil Alkhoury, dentist at Brentwood
Family Dental, is pleased to offer dentures as a
way of restoring the smile when teeth are missing. There
are three varieties of dentures available at our
practice:
The partial denture is commonly used for patients who need to replace one or several teeth within the dental arch. These restorations are made of a metal and acrylic framework that snaps into the dental arch using the existing teeth for support. Partial dentures are very affordable and patients are able to easily remove them for simple cleaning and care.
Full dentures are utilized for patients who have lost all their teeth within the dental arch. These dentures are made of acrylic and include not only false teeth but false gum tissue. These dentures can be fabricated to match the patient’s existing teeth on the opposite arch, or can be made to the patient’s liking to achieve a more beautiful smile than before! Full dentures are commonly held in place with natural suction or dental adhesives.
As a more reliable, stable option, some patients choose to go with implant-supported dentures. These are full dentures made with acrylic that are stabilized with several dental implants along the dental arch. Dental implants are titanium posts that are placed into the jaw bone during oral surgery and connect with the denture to ensure in that it is held firmly in place. This is one of the most reliable ways for patients to wear a full denture, especially when they are concerned about the full denture failing to stay in place.

How do dentures work?
Dentures work by replacing the natural teeth in whatever
manner the patient chooses. Partial dentures use the
existing
teeth to hold the metal framework in place and ensure
the
false tooth slides into the arch where the natural tooth
is
missing. Full dentures replace all the teeth and allow
patients the chance to feel confident again with a
restoration
that makes their smile look beautiful and function
properly.
Both of these dentures allow patients to eat and
speak
properly, as well as smile with confidence!
Are dentures natural-looking?
Absolutely! Dr.
Jamil Alkhoury works hard to ensure patients have
restorations that look like their natural teeth,
blending in
with the smile and looking less like dental restorations
and
more like the natural smile.
