Steps to a Beautiful Smile with Porcelain Veneers

We all would like to feel confident when we flash our smile. It is for this reason that cosmetic dentistry procedures are so widely popular today. Now, our patients are able to attain their aesthetics goals far more readily than they may have been able to in years past. With your Brentwood dentist, teeth veneers can do wonders for the smile, correcting issues such as:

  • Broken or chipped teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Gaps
  • Discoloration that does not respond to bleaching
  • Turned teeth

Getting a new and improved smile with porcelain veneers is quite convenient, and completely non-invasive. The entire process is typically completed within three visits, the first of which is designed to discuss your overall goals for your teeth. Every cosmetic procedure that Dr. Alkhoury performs is customized to the patient, allowing you to be very much a part of the process. During this first visit with your Brentwood dentist, teeth veneers are discussed as an option to reach your goals, and teeth and gums are assessed to ensure they are in optimal condition to accommodate the best possible results from treatment.

Once teeth and gums have been cleared for treatment, the tooth or teeth to receive porcelain veneers are prepared through the removal of a small amount of tooth enamel, the outer layer of tooth. This step is taken in order to facilitate the wafer-thin veneer, allowing it to lie flush against the gums. Local anesthetic is administered during this step to avoid any discomfort. After all teeth have been prepared, Dr. Alkhoury or his assistant will take an impression of the area. This model serves as a guide in the dental laboratory. Temporary veneers are then placed so that you can begin to enjoy your beautiful new smile, and feel no sensitivity while you wait for your permanent veneers to be crafted.

In approximately two weeks from this visit with your Brentwood dentist, teeth veneers will be ready for placement. The temporary veneers you received will be removed and each permanent veneer is placed over its specified tooth to be assessed for fit. If needed, adjustments will be made to each veneer until its shape has been perfected. Teeth are then etched and polished to facilitate a strong bond, and dental cement is applied. After veneers have been carefully placed and bonded, a specialized light is administered to solidify the dental cement, creating a long-lasting, beautiful smile.
